Bass Brewery's history begins in 1777 and its Pale Ale was once the biggest selling beer in the UK - it is actually billed as 'The World's First Pale Ale'.
The company is now owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev but draught Bass continues to be brewed under contract in Burton by Marston's for AB-InBev since 2005, while bottled and keg versions such as this are brewed at AB-InBev's own brewery in Samlesbury near Preston for export.
Sampled on 01/05/2011
Clear, copper colour with creamy off white head.
There's a waft of traditional greengrocers shop to a caramel nose with light pine hops.
Unspectacular but inoffensive dry, malty with caramel, light pine hops and diacetyl butteryness.
Buttery fudge finish.
