Review and Tasting

Sampled on 09/04/2016

Appearance

Crystal clear.

Aroma

Pungent creamy lemon curd and lemon zest with white pepper, clean hamster cage bedding and very faint ginger. Juniper is very subdued.

Taste

There’s a creaminess to this gin’s mouthfeel, which like the nose is dominated by upfront zesty lemon and peppery spice. Again juniper notes are somewhat overwhelmed.

Aftertaste

Peppery and piney juniper does emerge more in the zesty lemon finish.

Overall

As the name suggests, creamy lemon curd and lemon zest dominate this gin to the extent that it is perhaps more a lemon distillate with other subtle botanical influences than it is, strictly speaking a gin. Hence, our categorising as a ‘new western gin’. However, Malfy’s lemon freshness does make this an appealing distillate.
