It is then aged for a short period on the island before being shipped to the Netherlands where is undergoes a second period of...
...aging in large casks for up to eight years. Various ages of arrack are then blended and bottled.
Sampled on 02/05/2016
(sample batch 001, bottle No. 001) Clear but not bright, golden amber.
Fruity esters – apple, overripe pear, overripe banana – cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, new leather, old oak, clove and anise.
Dry spicy oak partially balanced by the merest hint of sweetness. Spicy, fruity esters explode on the palate, somewhat smoothed by linseed oil.
Linseed oil rubbed leather, dry oak and lingering clove, nutmeg and cinnamon spice with fruity esters.
Forget refinement, bring on the flavour explosion. Proper Batavia Arrack is powerful stuff and this characterful example has assertive fruit esters and spice.
