Launched in March 2016, this cider is made by Suffolk-based Aspall who also own a share in this brand (Hobo Beer). East Coast Cyder is made from a selection of both cooking and eating apples, including: Bramley, Gala, Cox, Russet and Jonagold varieties.

The Hobo Beer brand celebrates “hard-working, wondering gentlemen” who apparently use a series of symbols to pass on messages to fellow hobos that might follow behind them. The black can this cyder (yup ‘cyder’ rather than ‘cider’) is packaged in features the symbol for ‘unsafe drinking water’.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 04/07/2016

Appearance:

(sample can best before 16/Feb/17) Clear, light to medium golden.

Aroma:

Fragrant fermented apple juice with faint floral and dried leafy notes.

Taste:

Light bodied and dryish – certainly not bone dry. Good apple juice flavours with crisp acidity.

Aftertaste:

Long lingering lightly sweetened apple juice with cleansing acidity.

Overall:

Medium dry cider, traditional Suffolk cider with clean apple flavours and crisp acidity. A very refreshing cider that few will dislike.
