100% agave, añejo tequila aged at least one year in first refill ex-bourbon casks. Tres Generaciones (literally ‘three generations’) is a tribute to the three generations of grandfather, father and son to run the Sauza distillery: Don Cenobio Sauza, Don Eladio Sauza and Don Francisco Javier Sauza.
All variants in the Tres Generaciones range are triple distilled, 100% agave tequilas. In Mexico and the U.S. these are sold at 40% abv but sadly in the UK these are only marketed at 38% abv - surely not much of a premium statement, and downright rude with a retail price that breaks the £40 mark. I don’t think it is unfair to say that these are tequilas are made using industrial rather than artisan processes, and despite the rather attractive hand-painted and labeled bottles, which look like metal-clad flagons though are actually painted, are somewhat ambitiously priced.
Sampled on 01/07/2009
Clear, golden amber.
Slightly burnt toast with vanilla and a subtle waft of artificial green melon.
Slightly sweet palate with boiled green sweets and vanilla struggling to balance strong notes of cracked black pepper.
Vanilla oak fights pepper through the long finish.
