This 2016 bottling is the 16th vintage of Clément’s Canne Bleue unaged agricole rum. Clément claim Canne Bleue is the only mono variety of rum in world – Canne Bleue being the variety of cane from which this rum originates, so named due to the purple blue colour of its shoots.
Like the other Clément rums, this rhum agricole is slowly hydrated (over eight months).
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 04/09/2017
Appearance:
Crystal clear.
Aroma:
Pungent, grassy, damp straw and estery aromas with white pepper, faint soot and cane juice/honey. A minerality reminiscent of pavements after rain.
Taste:
Dry with spirituous white peppery spice, cut grass, dried grass and faint lemongrass. Subtle floral fruity notes emerge with water.
Aftertaste:
Delicate citrus emerges in the spirituous white pepper spiced grassy finish.
Overall:
This unaged mono variety vintage bottling is one of the most distinctive unaged rums on the market – grassy flavours and white pepper spice predominate with subtle lemongrass and faint floral fruity notes.
