This 23 year old Benrinnes is only the third ever distillery bottling and is a limited edition of just 6,000 individually numbered bottles from European Oak sherry wood casks filled in 1985.
Sampled before 1st May 2011
(cut to approx 45% abv) Deep mahogany in colour.
Sherry-laced, dried-fruit, rich, Christmas cake served on slightly burnt toast with a touch of clarified butter and rubber.
Savoury and yet sweet full-bodied powerful palate. Spiced meat stock, tannic oaky dryness and smoky notes are served with and countered by caramelised dried fruit and dark tangy honey.
The fruit fades to leave a dry oaky, faintly smoky finish with pleasing hints of treacle.
