Flavoured with seven botanicals: juniper, angelica, orris root, lemon peel, marshmallow leaf, lime leaf oil and a seventh "family secret", Mr Hobbs Gin is named after the apparently notoriously flamboyant Mr Harry Hobbs, who 1870 became owner and proprietor of The Ship Hotel on Henley Riverside.
Harry Hobbs founded Hobbs and Sons, now Hobbs of Henley, a company with boatyards offering pleasure boating on the Thames at Henley. The company is now run by Harry's great, great, great grandson, Jonathan Hobbs, who, with his wife Suzy, launched Mr Hobbs Gin in May 2017 after they purportedly found the recipe for Harry Hobbs home distilled gin in the back of an old framed photo.
Mr Hobbs Gin is said to be made Harry Hobbs' recipe with added orris root and lime leaf oil. It is a distilled gin but with flavouring essence added after distillation.

Crystal clear.
Piney juniper, tea leaves, woody nuts and black pepper spice with faint parma violet and cough sweets.
Initial faint sweetness is quickly dried by assertive black pepper spice and woody bitterness. Piney juniper and zesty citrus notes struggle for attention.
Black pepper spice dominates the piney finish.
Spirituous peppery spice and woody bitterness overly dominate this dry gin.
