Stranger & Sons Gin is batch distilled with nine "inherently Indian botanicals". Only juniper berries and angelica are sourced from outside of India. Black pepper, nutmeg, mace, coriander, liquorice, cassia bark come from farms along the fertile Konkan and Malabar Coasts, from Goa to Kerala.
The four types of Indian citrus peel come from Gondhoraj lemons, Indian bergamot sweet limes, Nagpur oranges and limes.
The help and support the local community, ladies from a local self-help group are employed at the distillery to make jams, pickles and cordials from the citrus peels used in the gin and visit the distillery every day a new batch is made. The pickles and cordials they make are used in the gin's hero cocktails, the Gimlet and Gibson.
Sampled on 20/08/2019
(sample bottle: batch 2, produced Mar/19) Crystal clear.
Complex Indian spices are well integrated with piney juniper, nutty angelica and lime-led zesty citrus.
Zesty citrus and assertive spice but neither overwhelm the juniper.
Earthy and cinnamon-spiced with sweet liquorice.
A brilliantly conceived and executed gin that heroes its predominately India botanicals and origin without masking traditional juniper and angelica gin botanicals. Best summarised as being traditional London dry in style but with dialled up Indian spice and citrus notes.
