Launched as a Christmas limited edition in December 2016, Tappers Figgy Pudding Gin celebrates the eponymous British dessert which dates back to the 16th Century and is traditionally served at Christmas.
Figgy Pudding Gin is made by infusing the botanicals in neutral spirit (rather than redistilling) giving the finished gin an amber colour. The botanicals used include juniper, figs, apple, raisins, sultanas, orange peel, allspice and cassia. Each bottle is hand-filled, labelled and wax sealed.
Sampled on 18/11/2019
(sample bottle No.1, batch No. 2019/5, and-bottled Oct/19) Clear, bright amber.
Pungent fresh juniper berries, raisin, sultanas, figs and allspice.
Bone dry with intense flavours of juniper, dried Christmassy fruit and assertive spice.
Long, dry and with lingering lightly bitter piney juniper and cassia.
We commend Tappers for producing a dry gin rather than being tempted to add sugar to make this a Figgy Pudding Gin Liqueur. However, the steeping method has imparted a lot of dry bitter tannins from the botanicals to produce a bone-dry gin – not very 'pudding' like.
