Kilchoman (pronounced ‘Kilh-O-Man), the first distillery built on Islay for nearly 100 years, released its eagerly anticipated inaugural single malt on the 9-September 2009. Before you rush to thewhiskyexchange.com I should say the 8,300 bottles sold within days and are already a collectable rarity.

This inaugural release was matured in first re-fill bourbon casks and then finished for six months in Oloroso sherry butts. It was bottled without the addition of caramel or chill-filtration.

Appearance:

Pale golden yellow, clear.

Aroma:

Smoky peat soot is the most obvious aroma with hints of dried fruit and citrus.

Bonfire and grilled mild chilli dominate the somewhat vegetable palate.

Aftertaste:

Pepper and heat dominate the finish.
