Review and Tasting
Sampled on 25/07/2020
Appearance:
Crystal clear. (sample bottle batch No.5, bottle No. 130, distilled 25/May/20)
Aroma:
Barley new-make spirit with subdued juniper and minty pine freshness.
Taste:
New-make spirit with assertive black pepper spice. As with the nose, botanicals are relatively subdued but attractive.
Aftertaste:
Juniper notes are more obvious in the savoury finish.
Overall:
Strictly speaking, gin should be based on a neutral spirit but Sutors Gin is based on a more characterful barley and wheat spirit. This spirit contributes substantially to this gin's flavour which is perhaps more about the base spirit than the botanicals. As a "botanical spirit" I'd score Sutors 5-out-of-5 but classic gin-lovers may be disappointed. Despite this I still recommend Sutors.
