Rum Sixty Six is produced and bottled at Foursquare Distillery, Barbados by the Seal family, rum makers for five generations dating back to 1820. Rum Sixty Six is genuinely reserved for family, being an allocation given exclusively to the British branch of the family which emigrated in the 1960s.
Rum Sixty Six Family Reserve is distilled from fermented molasses and is a blend of column and copper pot still rums. These distillates are reduced to 65% alc./vol. before filling American white oak ex-bourbon casks. After around 8 years the casks are sampled and those with the greatest potential separated and the rum reduced to near final bottling strength to complete their minimum 12 years of maturation. It is these elite casks which are blended to make Rum Sixty Six Family Reserve.
The Rum Sixty Six name celebrates the 30 November 1966 when Barbados became an independent state and adopted the coat of arms bearing the national motto ‘Pride and Industry’. Fittingly the coat of arms proudly adorns each bottle of Rum Sixty Six.
