This 100% merlot organic wine is rested for six months in stainless steel vats prior to bottling and is made by the Labadie family who have owned Chateau Cazau Martet for four generations. Today Céline and Frédéric Labadie farm the estate organically.

The name Cazau Martet originates from a cross between Martet, the name of the village where the Château is located, and Cazau, a 12th-century word of Latin origin for a large palatial house.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 23/02/2021

Appearance:

Clear, deep carmine red.

Aroma:

Ripe strawberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry fruit. Faint lavender.

Taste:

Assertive dry stewed tea tannins and tart blackcurrant with ripe plum and blueberry. Faint floral lavender and parma violet.

Aftertaste:

Lingering dry tannins and tart berry fruit.

Overall:

Dry tannins and faint floral notes add interest and structure to this tart blackcurrant and ripe blueberry and plum fruit claret. Best enjoyed with food or even to add character and balance to cocktails.
