Appearance:
Clear, golden amber.
Aroma:
Smoking oak embers, tar, toasty oak and roast chestnuts with blackcurrant boiled sweets (hard candy) and nutty chocolate.
Taste:
Initially sweet before spirituous spice, peat-smoked oak and salinity kick in. I'm not sure this Caisteal Chamuis benefits from water but a splash amplifies barley notes and lets zesty orange emerge.
Aftertaste:
Long, smoky and pleasingly medicinal.
Overall:
If you like a full-on peaty malt then this 12-year-old Caisteal Chamuis could be just what you're looking for. Attractively priced and bristling with character.
