As its name suggests, Wattshot is a gin-based spirit drink designed to be consumed as a shot. The "Watt" element of the name references the electric sensation it leaves in your mouth, which I suspect is due to its being infused with Szechuan Buttons - edible flowers that impart this sensation.

The makers of Wattshot describe their product as "A shot of electricity, invigorating the senses. It starts with a strong hit of the gin, developing into a rich cherry blossom flavour with a floral note. And then comes the tingle. Subtle at first, a vibrant, electric sensation floods the mouth, stimulating it and leaving it with a clean, fresh aftertaste. It starts with a strong hit of the gin, developing into a rich cherry blossom flavour with a floral note. As well as a shot, its makers promote Wattshot as a cocktail ingredient with the following recipes:

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 30/01/2023

Appearance:

Clear, pale golden amber.

Aroma:

Vanilla-infused gin and cherry-scented soap

Taste:

Lightly sweetened vanilla and floral gin followed by spirituous spice.

Aftertaste:

As the flavour fades so an electric taste sensation grows and takes over.

Overall:

Some will love this shot - enjoying the sensation it leaves in the mouth, as well as the reaction of friends who have not previously encountered electrifying Szechuan Buttons (AKA Buzz Flowers) before. I hated it! However, I did very much like the nifty Borosilicate glass the bottle came with and I can see there will be a market for Wattshot.
