Brewed by the Saint Benedictus Abbey of Achel, one of the six Belgium Trappist breweries. Achel Bruin is lightly filtered leaving some yeast haze in the bottle. (An Achel Brune Extra is also available at 9.5%.)

Appearance:

Clear, dark (almost black) reddy brown with large tan head which fades to a thin layer of foam leaving heavy lacing.

Aroma:

Yeasty, burnt toast nose with icing sugar, cloves, overripe banana skin and faint pineapple.

Taste:

Full bodied palate supported by a strong alcohol base and spicy cracked black pepper. Underlying yeast, charcoal burnt toast and faint coriander.

Aftertaste:

Long, full flavoured spicy finish.
