Difford's Guide

alc./vol: 10.4%

Vintage: Non-vintage

Aged: No age statement

Brewed according to the style of the strong stouts originally brewed in England for export to Russia. Left Hand uses aggressive hop use, a long conditioning period and bottles without filtration.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 19/03/2012

Appearance:

Almost opaque and black, dark reddy brown with medium tan head leaving moderate lacing.

Aroma:

Heavily roasted nutty malt with caramel, charcoal, espresso and liquorice.

Taste:

Burnt toast charcoal, liquorice and dark chocolate. The high alcohol content balances sweetness making this huge stout surprisingly amiable.

Aftertaste:

Long, dry, moderately bitter espresso, liquorice and bitter chocolate finish. Imperial stouts aren't meant to be easy.
