The main ingredient of this liqueur is the thick-skinned plum-sized fruit of the Marula tree which grows throughout sub-equatorial Africa. (Also known as the 'Elephant Tree' due to being eaten by elephants and the 'Marriage Tree' due to its reputed to have aphrodisiac powers)

The fruit is harvested by hand throughout February and March, crushed and fermented to produce a fruit wine which is then distilled in copper pot-stills. This distillate is then matured in oak casks for two years before blending with cream.
