Certificate

Carolans (without apostrophe) is made with honey and fresh Irish cream. In the UK, Carolans is wine based, while the product made for sales in other markets is based on "fine Irish spirits and Irish whiskey". Apparently UK consumers like the distinctive taste of the wine-based product.

Carolans is the second biggest brand of Irish cream liqueur behind Baileys Irish Cream liqueur and is also available in a light version (with half the fat and one-third less calories) and a coffee cream version launched in 1994.

Launched in 1978

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 07/04/2020

Appearance:

Opaque milky wet-sand brown.

Aroma:

Creamy/milky nose with faint perfumed and a whiff of old-fashioned sticking plaster.

Taste:

Creamy (in both texture and lactic flavour) with toffee, faint honey and just enough alcohol bite.

Aftertaste:

Reminiscent of toffee and vanilla ice-cream.
