This ‘Blackcurrant Gin’ is made from fruit sourced from Edward Thompson’s Ben Hope strain of blackcurrants from his Pixley Berries in Herefordshire and is unusual due to its low sugar content.
Sampled on 08/12/2010
Deep maroon red.
Crème de cassis nose with earthy notes but little gin.
That crème de cassis nose sets you up for a sweet palate but if anything this intensely fruity liqueur is on the dry side with blackcurrant fruit acidity balancing the small amount of sugar added.
As the label proclaims, that lack of cloying sugar makes this “recognisably different blackcurrant”.
