Zyankali Absinthe is made for Zyankali bar in Berlin. Zyankali, which is a laboratory-themed bar, translates as Potassium Cyanide, a strong poison which smells like bitter almond. The bar has carried a range of absinthes since a ban was lifted in 1998. Carrying on the psychedelic theme, the bar also carries liqueurs made of Betelpepper, Mandrake and Coca-leaf. Zyankali bar says the wormwood level is very high "so it has a mild taste but a strong effect".

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 01/04/2011

Appearance:

Clear, emerald green (louches milky green).

Aroma:

(Hydrated) Almond/marzipan perfumed nose with aromas of pine forest and aniseed.

Taste:

Bitter wormwood-dominated palate with aniseed struggling to rise above the bitterness.

Aftertaste:

Long, bitter still wormwood-dominated finish. A spirit for experienced absinthe fans and hardcore wormwood pleasure seekers.
