Distilled by Oregon Spirit Distillers of Bend, Oregon using a German-made Ulrich Kothe hybrid still. A wheat neutral spirit is redistilled with Italian juniper and other botanicals including cassia, cardamom and grapefruit peel.

Established in 2015 by Matt Melaik, The Walter Collective is named after his grandfather Walter J. Bade, who served in WWII as a Machinist and then earned his living selling Ford Motor cars before becoming an employee of the Chicago water department. However, Walter was a keen artist and Matt named his company after his grandfather’s love for creating art and the company’s products being “artfully crafted using premium ingredients in creative and thoughtful ways.”

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 09/04/2016

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Pine, lavender, cardamom, cinnamon and zesty pink grapefruit. Water amplifies cardamom aromas.

Taste:

Clear and fresh with well-balanced vibrant zesty lemon/grapefruit, juniper and cardamom spice.

Aftertaste:

Piney juniper with lingering cinnamon and warming cardamom spice.

Overall:

Assertive cardamom spice strongly influences this clean and refreshing, otherwise traditional London dry-style gin.
