As well as being owned by a famous Hollywood star, Dan Ackroyd, Crystal Head is distinctive due to its skull-shaped bottle, cut from Italian Bruni glass and inspired by the legend of the 13 crystal heads.

A controversial archaeological mystery, 13 crystal heads have been found in regions around the world, from Yucatan in Mexico to Tibet in The Far East. Dated between 5,000 and 35,000 years old, they are said to have been polished into shape from solid quartz over a period of hundreds of years and bear no tool marks betraying how they were shaped. The stuff of Tomb Raider, Raiders of the Lost Ark and now, a Hollywood-inspired vodka brand.

Launched in the United States in 2008, Crystal Head Vodka is the product of a joint venture between Hollywood actor Dan Ackroyd and artist John Alexander.

Crystal Head has organic certification and is 100% Kosher. It is made "by distilling high quality Canadian peaches and cream corn, exclusively grown in Northern America. We are told Crystal Head is "distilled four times", we presume using a four-column continuous process. The spirit is hydrated with glacial water from St John's, Newfoundland, Canada and filtered four times through charcoal and three times through quartz crystals (also known as Herkimer diamonds). No sugar or other additives are used to sweeten or flavour Crystal Head.

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Neutral, clean nose with cracked black pepper spirituous notes and the merest whiff of vanilla crème brûlée.

Taste:

Clean and dry with light black pepper prickle and bitter burnt sugar-like flavours.

Aftertaste:

Dry, cracked black pepper with very faint caramel and lingering charcoal.

Overall:

Dry with pronounced cracked black pepper throughout and lingering charcoal.
