This appropriately named rye is a blend of two rye whiskies - geddit? A 2 year-old with a very high percentage rye mashbill at 95 per cent rye and 5 per cent barley malt, and a mature "barely legal" 16-year-old rye with a mashbill of 53 per cent rye and 37 per cent corn.

High West says: "The extra age and corn provides some extra sweetness to calm the 'bite' of the younger rye for a relationship that works."

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 30/08/2011

Appearance:

Clear, bright golden.

Aroma:

An intriguing pine fresh nose with eucalyptus, juniper, grass, aniseed and menthol underpinned by classic spicy, oaky, cereal rye aromas with rounding fudge and vanilla.

Taste:

Honeyed palate belies its high strength with walnuts, liquorice, cacao, corn and vanilla, while clove and cinnamon spice add character and a touch of fire.

Aftertaste:

The long leathery finish sees the return of the pine notes from the nose with breath freshening eucalyptus and menthol. As the spice fades cigar tobacco shines through the lingering pine flavours.
