Released June 2013 as one of a twin set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation, this one of the two 350ml bottles was matured in Spanish oak sherry seasoned casks while the other was matured in American oak sherry casks. Disappointingly neither carries an age statement.

Designed by Art Director, David Holmes, each of the two bottles features a different image of The Queen, one taken in 1953 by Cecil Beaton and the other in 2004 by Julian Calder. Only 1953 on the twin packs were produced, available only directly from Macallan.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 27/05/2013

Appearance:

Clear, deep mahogany.

Aroma:

Madeira, raisins, sultanas, dates and pungent earthy nutty oak. Water reveals digestive biscuit mushed in almond milk.

Taste:

Tannic oak, dried and charred fruit. Go easy with the water which brings out fudge and chocolaty notes but deadens the all-important enlivening spice.

Aftertaste:

Stewed tea, oak, spice and lingering ginger.
