A non-chill filtered bottling of peaty Islay malt by independent bottlers Speciality Drinks. (We must disclose that the shareholders of Speciality Drinks also have a minority interest in Difford's Guide.)
Sampled on 20/04/2016
Clear, pale golden.
Earthy smoky peat, fresh ripe pear, pear drops, barley water and zesty lemon with faint salty seaweed. Pear drops and mouldering charcoal with water.
Sweet ripe pear, green apple and Galia melon, mouldering charcoal and accompanying smoke with refreshing zesty lemon and enlivening black pepper spice. Takes water well but sweet fruit is knocked back and smoke amplified so don't drown it.
Lingering salty peaty smoke, sweet new leather, green apple, pear skin and sweet spice.
Generous sweet ripe orchard fruit, peaty smoke, mouldering charcoal and zesty lemon. Sold in a 50cl bottle but at 59.3% alc./vol. this is a lot of whisky with generous Islay character.
