Author, wit and journalist on the New Yorker, Dorothy Parker passed away on this day in 1967. Mrs Parker, who said her favourite words were "check" and "enclosed", is also often credited with the immortal line, "I must get out of these wet clothes and into a dry martini".
Today we are toasting this larger-than-life character with an Algonquin. Our take on this classic cocktail derives its name from the Manhattan hotel at which Mrs Parker's Algonquin Round Table met to drink, bitch and wisecrack every day for ten years, and is a suitable tribute to the lady herself.
