Lovelight

Today is Bi Visibility Day, also known as International Celebrate Bisexuality Day.

Bi Visibility day was created to raise awareness of and celebrate bisexuality, the bisexual community and to shine a light on the challenges this community faces.

Established by Wendy Curry, Michael Page and Gigi Raven Wilbur and first recognised in 1999, every year since then on 23rd September events take place in countries around the world, raising awareness and calling for positive change.

While Bi Visibility Day has some way to go to reach the profile, of, say, Pride, it is an important occasion. We will be marking it with a Lovelight.

Feminist Icon Born

The first female presidential candidate in the US entered the world on this day in 1838. Aged 34, only a few years after Lincoln was assassinated, Victoria Martin ran for president as a representative of the Equal Rights Party.

And this wasn't Victoria's only first. She was also the first woman to start a weekly newspaper and the first to run a Wall Street brokers' firm - and she did all this after leaving school aged 11, one of 10 children of an illiterate mother.

A passionate advocate of women's rights, in particular the freedom to marry, divorce and take lovers at will, Victoria made her first fortune as a magnetic healer, and a second in business. And, though she never made president, she's an icon for equal rights campaigners even today. We are toasting this extraordinary lady with a Foxy Lady.
