Cherry is more than a garnish in this twist on the classic Sweet Manhattan.

My favorite Manhattan is 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz red vermouth, a barspoon of syrup from the Luxardo or Amarena cherry jar, and a few dashes of Angostura bitters. I found that using the Cherry Heering instead of the jar syrup made it a bit heavier and richer than I prefer, but it was still tasty.

I really liked this with 50/50 split of Wild Turkey 101 & 81, Heering Cherry, & Dolin Rouge. Has the expected Manhattan flavors, made a little richer with the cherry.

Bland with Four Roses and Marinquinhas. Using them, the vermouth (Poli Gran Bassano) was too present and not at all complimented... A dash of Fernet zazzed it up a bit. But clearly this recipe is heavily brand-dependent.

This is really good and very surprising. I thought it was going to be too sweet, but it was great. Interesting with the hint of cherry.
