Ingredients:
1 12 oz Blended Scotch whisky
12 oz Batavia Arrack van Oosten
14 oz Bénédictine D.O.M. liqueur
2 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill an Old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist.
  3. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).
  5. EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

Review:

As Jason, the originator of this cocktail, says, "A scotch with some backbone, such as Johnnie Walker Black, is required to stand up to the arrack." That said, you may want to cut the arrack back a tad and up the Bénédictine accordingly – perhaps to 10ml (1/3oz) of each.

I'm not sure this is a good use of arrack - I used By the Dutch batavia arrack, and most of the complexity coming from the mash bill of sugarcane, date palm and rice was lost in this drink. It's also quite dry with such a small amount of benedictine. I would recommend just making an arrack old fashioned if you want to put the spirit to good use.
