Ingredients:
1 fl oz Straight rye whiskey (100 proof /50% alc./vol.)
12 fl oz Strucchi Rosso Vermouth
112 fl oz Ferrand Dry Curaçao
112 fl oz Bigallet China China Amer
1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
2 fl oz Brut champagne/sparkling wine chilled

Prepare:

  1. Select and pre-chill a FLUTE GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

How to make:

  1. STIR first 5 ingredients with ice.
  2. STRAIN into chilled glass.
  3. TOP with sparkling wine.

Garnish:

  1. EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History:

The Ohio is a classic cocktail from the early 20th century which is thought to have originated in Germany, where it remains popular. This recipe is adapted from one created at Buck & Breck in Berlin.

A traditional old German orangey Manhattan topped with champagne and named The Ohio. Fascinating. And pretty good as an aperitivo, too.
