Ingredients:
2 oz Blended Scotch whisky
1 oz Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
12 oz Joseph Cartron Double Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne
13 oz Monin Pure Cane Syrup (65.0°brix, equivalent to 2:1 rich syrup)
1 dash Angostura Aromatic Bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Double old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of lemon slice wheel/wedge, or blackcurrants/blackberries when in season.
  3. SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into glass filled with crushed ice.

History:

A scotch whisky-based riff on Jeffrey Morgenthaler's Bourbon Renewal, created by Brett Luttrell, a fellow discerning drinker who, in April 2023, ran out of bourbon so decided to sub in Johnny Walker Black and found it "Still works!" "Thus, a new drink 'round my house was born: The Urbane Restorative – a homage to the late Christopher Hitchens, whose love of "Mr. Walker's Amber Restorative" was no secret."

Works better with slightly more scotch, I think.

Was a bit unsure about the ingredients, but the resulting cocktail is wonderful. The smoky of the Whisky with fruit flavours and the bitters all worked perfectly together. Did cut the sugar syrup in half and it was a bit sour, but perfect for us.

Sweet enough without extra sugar IMO. Next time I shall also up the bitters.
