Review:

A pisco-based riff on the classic The Last Word cocktail. Most make this with equal parts but I find it better with a touch more pisco.

We were a bit sceptical that the Pisco (in our case the BarSol specified in the recipe) would stand up against the liqueurs. But it did. We just added a couple of gentle drops of orange bitters to add to the complexity. Really delicious for us.

OMG I didnt expect this . The thing is I live in Mexico City, and certainly is not like going to buy the groceries en la Habana, but there are no many things: Benedictine? no Gentian Liquor? never. Thankfully I travel a lot, and bring everything necessary. Why I am telling you this? I am 56 year old and is the first time I try Pisco. It opens a category totally different to any other liquor. It taste -to me- smoked but not like mezcal, other quemado. Like in here nobody really knows their mixology, I went today to the store for the Pisco, and the lady told me that foreigners buy BOXES of green chartreuse here. Is not something everybody buys, and sometimes is very scarce. I really like this drink, now I want the pisco sour, and all the piscos in my recipes.

Made a batch for the wife and me. I skipped the chilled water in the above ratios but did a long shake and wifey was happy with the result. I garnished the same way I do with Last Word, Luxardo cherry with a 1/2 barspoon of syrup at the bottom of a well-chilled coupe. We are both gin and pisco appreciators and I must admit that I like the gin version, but only slightly more. I like the botanicals over the slight grassy funk of pisco.

I found it excellent, maybe even better than the last word... It's really a plus to drink it in a frozen glass. Got a 5.

Just tried this again, this time with a very floral Chilean pisco; El Gobernador, pot distilled, Moscatel grape, and it was delightful! Still ☆☆☆☆☆.

Santiago Queirolo Quebranta, split Cloosterbitter/Green Chartreuse; lemon lime 50:50, and Maraska Marachino gave it a luscious cherry center! Dang, didn't have the Luxardo garnish... would have been perfect. ♡

it didn't hit the heights for me but i should try it again some time to be sure because on paper i am a strong supporter.

Tried this tonight with ABA Pisco (Alexandria / Muscat grape). I quite enjoyed this as a change from the usual gin based Last Word. While I didn't find it too sweet, I agree with Florian that maybe a little more Pisco relative to Luxardo might by bringing out more Pisco elevate the cocktail. Still for me though, a solid 5.

Now I retried this good cocktail with the original proportions and Pisco acholado (thx Peter). In my opinion like this it is a slight bit too sweet, Luxardo is overly dominant and the Pisco character vanishes. So I suggest a try with 4cl Pisco, 2cl Chartreuse, 1,5cl Luxardo and 2,25cl lime juice. Anyway I would keep the additional dilution.

My rating in brackets, because I only had a bit maraschino left. But I balanced it with simple syrup and although it was only ¼ Luxardo of the recipes amount it was clearly detectable.
