AKA: Golden Glow

History:

This vintage cocktail originated from a layered or 'pousse-café' style drink called a Bijou. The original drink was so named after the French word meaning 'jewel' due to its trio of ingredients being coloured after the three most precious jewels: diamond (gin), ruby (sweet vermouth) and emerald (Green Chartreuse).

Stir rather than layer and the colours combine to make this an aptly named amber coloured drink.

Gin upfront, sweetened by Vermouth. The Chartreuse in the back could be upped a tiny bit. Orange bitters are lost, at least I cant taste them. I prefer Tanqueray TEN as my Gin in this one.

Surprisingly heavy on the chartreuse, would be tempted to up the vermouth a whisker. Otherwise a potent, rich, highly flavoured and sumptuous cocktail. Classic no nonsense flavour-forward drinking.

Was watching "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" again last night and various parts of the internet seems to claim that the cocktail that McCabe drinks (double whisky and a raw egg) is called an Amber Moon. Can you help clarify? Perhaps if it is known under a different name here then a clarification can be added? :)

Complex, challenging and gorgeous. A heavyweight and dare I say it, a man’s cocktail!

Gin on the nose and upfront but quickly changes to the Chartreuse ( I also used 3/4 oz. ) and finishes dry. Nicely balanced. Would recommend.

Added 3/4 oz chartreuse because of John Hinojos comment and I love it. I'll have to try it as written sometime, too.

Very nice drink, bold, but at the same time thoughtful and nuanced.

Great drink. I love Green Chartreuse and this is great for an aperitif. For my taste, I think I would up the Chartreuse a little.
