3 fl oz	Thomas Henry Soda Water
1 fl oz	Exprè Caffè Italiano (or freshly made hot Espresso Coffee)
1 1/2 fl oz	Mandarin liqueur

How to make

Glassware

Serve in a Collins glass

Prepare

Select and pre-chill a COLLINS GLASS.
Prepare garnish of orange slice wheel.

Method

POUR chilled soda water into an ice-filled glass.
ADD freshly brewed hot espresso coffee so it layers on the sparkling water.
Lastly, POUR the mandarin liqueur (the tasty part of the Bonaparte), which will sink through the coffee layer, pulling the drink together while leaving the coffee's crema on the surface.

Garnish

Garnish with orange slice.

A tall and refreshing highball, with subtle flavor. If you are a fan of Mandarine Napolean you should definitely try this - the soda dilutes the espresso into the background, and the distinct twist on orange flavor of Mandarine skims along the top of the taste (but you will need to look for it). Not a sweet or syrupy drink - it is refreshing, light, balanced on the edge of sweetness and with a mild earthiness and faint bitterness from the espresso. Very creative use of only 3 ingredients! I like the idea of James McMakin below, in adding small amounts of other liqueurs/liquors to bend the flavor another direction.

Added a 10ml float of Aalborg Akvavit and called it Denmark-Norway joins Napoleon. Like in 1814 when D/N sides with France after Britain steals their fleet.
