Review

This boozy after-dinner sipper of a cocktail is also good, and considerably lighter, with the dilution that comes with serving over crushed ice.

Inspired by John Hinojos and after tasting, I added some pastis 51 and some water. Loved the results. Should mention that I used Galliano L'Autentico (had no Strega and they are so similar).

I made this with Lillet Blanc, as I had just run out of dry vermouth, and it was fantastic. The subtle sweetness of Strega paired perfectly with the scotch.

The basic recipe is nice and restrained —dry, but with a slight zing from the Strega. For me, though it needed a touch of something to round it out, so I added a dash or two of orange bitters, and it was perfect —to my palate, at least.

Definitely boozy, but great balance. Added a splash of water as I was using a block of ice. Also did not have Strega, so I used yellow Chartreuse and a quarter teaspoon of Pernod
