Created in 2018 for Bacardi Legacy by Matías Peredo at Siete Negronis, Santiago, Chile.
Matías’ inspiration: “The ‘flip’ is a very old cocktail category, with egg as the base ingredient, finished with grated nutmeg.
The name for my cocktail stems from Jerry Thomas’s book ‘How to Mix Drinks;’ which was published in 1862 and contained the first ‘flip’ style cocktail. This was also the year that BACARDÍ rum was born.
By revising this classic drink for a modern palette with BACARDÍ Reserve Ocho, my cocktail 1862 celebrates this happy coincidence.”
