Method

  1. Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of fresh watermelon wedge on rim or watermelon slices sweets/candy.
  3. SHAKE all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into ice-filled glass.

History

Adapted from a cocktail created by Trinh Quan Huy-Philip in Ukraine. In November 2012, Philip won the Swizzle Masters competition with this cocktail which was originally served as follows:

Summer of Matador
Glass: Old-fashioned
Garnish: 3 ginger slices, pineapple & mint sprig
Method: SHAKE first 5 ingredients with ice and strain into glass filled with crushed ice. Crown with DRIZZLE of watermelon liqueur.
30ml Tequila
20ml Green melon liqueur
20ml Pineapple juice
10ml Lime juice
10ml Agave syrup
10ml Watermelon liqueur

Review

Watermelon, lime and pineapple combine harmoniously in this very fruity, tequila-laced sour.

I was surprised how much I liked this given no real 🍉 got closer to my taste buds than the rim of the glass! I used G.E. Massenet's liqueur d' Ananas-Coco as I don't have pure pineapple liqueur. I used slightly less Agave too.

I did a something like that but it was 2oz mezcal, 1 1/2 oz pineapple juice, 3/4 oz of watermelon syrup, 1/2 oz of lime. Garnish with watermelon gummies. The smokier mezcal works better for me.
