How to make

Glassware

Prepare

Select and pre-chill a HIGHBALL (MAX 10OZ/300ML) GLASS.

Prepare garnish of dehydrated orange wheel slice.

Method

SHAKE first 3 ingredients with ice.

STRAIN into ice-filled glass.

TOP with soda.

Garnish

Garnish with orange slice wheel.

After reading the customizations for this drink, I ended up using 1 oz of Campari and 1 oz of sweet vermouth, then topped it off with San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa. It turned out to be a different drink, but I enjoyed it!

This is one of my favorite ways to drink Campari when blood oranges are in season. It's delicious!

I made this again with 30ml fresh blood orange juice and 15ml honey syrup (3:1). It is just way better this way, at least for me. The original recipe is far too Campari forward.

i enjoyed this. at first attempt i found the honey a bit overpowering so i added a bit more blood orange and then it really became rather splendid.

I subbed the soda for dry sparkling wine. Personally liked it a lot, but maybe something like 50/50 sparkling wine and water will be better.

The blood orange juice and honey are really subtle here. Campari dominates, which is never an problem for me! I don't see any reason to make this again unless I use a distinctive honey, but I can't see any other variety besides buckwheat cutting through the Campari. Hmm. (2 Feb 2022, 3:51p)

Completely agree with your assessment. Campari is way too dominant. Blood orange and honey needs to be increased, and Campari reduced.

Hi Simon, so cool of you to respond! The blood orange soda was just a generic grocery store one. The syrup was Rose's and I believe it is 2:1.

I just tried with and 1oz Campari with 3.5oz Fever-Tree Blood Orange and benefited from 1/4oz sugar (2:1).

Do you use Fever-Tree Italian Blood Orange Soda or another brand? And is your syrup 1 part sugar to 1 part water? It's interesting that sugar is needed to balance.
