Bols Around the World bartending competition celebrate their 10th edition this year, and they'll be mixing things up.

Lucas Bols is one of the world's oldest distilled spirits brands with more than 400 years of heritage, and today the company boasts a portfolio of over 20 premium spirit brands. They're also behind Bols Around the World, a global competition which looks to showcase the most unique cocktails and creative concepts.

How it works

This year for the first time the competition invited bar teams to compete. The competitors were asked to create a unique recipe alongside a theatrical concept using one or more products from the Lucas Bols global portfolio (Bols Genever, Bols Liqueurs, Bols Vodka, Damrak Gin, Galliano, Passoa, and Vaccari). Teams also needed to develop a concept around the presentation of their cocktail, a chance to pull out all the stops. Lastly, they were asked to share a video, up to 2 minutes long, on their social media and/or digital channels of their bar team creating the cocktail whilst bringing their concept to life.

Judges

Entries went through two rounds of judging. The first held by the Lucas Bols Global team, and the second conducted by a four person judging panel comprising Ryan "Mr Lyan" Chetiyawardana, Steve Schneider, Boudewijn Mesritz & Lydia Soedadi, all leading figures in the bar industry.

On 19 June 2019, the six finalist bar teams from North America, Eastern/Central Europe, Western Europe, Asia Pacific, South/Central America, and Africa/Middle East will be flown out to Amsterdam to compete in the Grand Championship. During the finale the bar teams will run their own bar on a street in the heart of Amsterdam, serving their cocktail and bringing to life their winning concept.

The prize

As well as the opportunity to compete in the Grand Championship and enjoy the delights of Amsterdam, the overall winning team will win an incredible trip for up to three members of their bar team to one of the following cities: Berlin, Cape Town, Dubai, London, Mexico City, Moscow, New York or Tokyo.

Thank you to all bar teams that participated this year! Keep following @BolsBartending on social media for all competition and Grand Finale updates.
