Each year since 2004 Arran have produced a batch of malt using peated barley from the East Coast of Scotland and since 2010 this has been released in limited edition batches under the 'Machrie Moor' name, a peaty moorland area on the west coast of Arran famous for its ancient standing stones.

The dog illustrated on the bottle and gift tin is called Bran, the canine companion of Arran's mythical warrior giant Fingal, who is said to have tethered the animal to one of Machrie Moor's standing stones.

The barley is malted to a peating level of 14ppm. Machrie Moor does not carry an age statement but we're reliably informed it is approximately 6-years-old.
