Black Robin is a New Zealand gin eponymously named after the rare and endangered domestic bird which also graces the bottle in the form of a hand-painted work by artist Andrew Barnes-Graham. Appropriately, a donation is made against every bottle sold to help its preservation.
Launched in 2013, Black Robin Gin is made by Michael Deinleina, a distiller with German distilling heritage in a German Arnold-Holstein copper hybrid pot still.
A base of triple-distilled whey spirit is distilled a further two times with 11 traditional and "exotic botanicals" including locally sourced Horopito, a flowering shrub/tree. The gin is hydrated filtered spring water sourced from a sprung underneath the distillery.

Crystal clear.
Creamy pine with candied lemon and lime, black pepper and fresh basil.
Piney juniper notes are fairly restrained with liquorice, lemongrass and black pepper spice.
Black pepper spice with light star anise and almost minty freshness.
Black Robin is fabulously clean with an attractive creaminess, liquoice and cleansing peppery spice.
