Named in homage to Jerry Thomas who it is believed wrongly specified Bogart’s Bitters, rather than Boker’s Bitters, in his 1862 The Bar-Tender’s Guide, these Bitter Truth Bitters are replicas of the historic Boker’s Bitters originally created by Johann Gottlieb Böker in 1828.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 19/01/2019

Appearance:

Clear, deep chocolate brown.

Overall:

Complex and bitter. Liquorice stands out with dark cacao, coffee and spice – particularly clove. Importantly, this would appear the closest we are ever going to get to the legendary Bogart’s/Boker’s Bitters that Jerry Thomas specified in his recipes back in the early 1860s.
