Named after Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753), a Royal physician and botanist, whose botanical collection formed the foundation of what is now the Natural History Museum, Sloane's gin reflects a small part of his collection of botanicals.

Each of the nine botanicals (juniper berries, cardamom, Italian iris root, Moroccan coriander, angelica root, Indian liquorice root, Madagascan whole vanilla pods, Spanish lemons and sweet oranges) are individually distilled and then those individual distillates blended to create Sloane's Gin. And, instead of using dried botanicals, where possible, as in the case with vanilla pods, oranges and lemons, whole fresh botanicals are used.

Packaged in a very similar shaped bottle to Death's Door Gin and benefiting from screen printed typography.

Review and Tasting

Sampled on 02/02/2012

Appearance:

Crystal clear.

Aroma:

Clean, aromatic but delicate nose with fragrant citrus notes rising over coriander and piney juniper.

Taste:

Clean, very soft and well balanced palate with juniper very evident but not dominating citrus, cardamom and coriander. Liquorice and vanilla add discernable sweeten and enhance the parma violet and tea flavours of the bitter orris root.

Aftertaste:

The finish is much drier than the palate with lasting juniper, citrus and liquorice flavours. We loved this gin neat so tried it in both a Dry Martini and G&T. Sadly we found it just too soft to stand up to 1:5 vermouth and a double G&T.
