The eponymous cocktail from the Waldorf Hotel occupied a site on New York's Fifth Avenue. The Empire State Building now occupies the hotel's original site and a landmark Art-Deco building at 301 Park Avenue has long been known as the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
Consisting of equal parts whiskey (probably originally rye whiskey), sweet vermouth and absinthe with a dash of bitters. This is the earlier of the two classic versions of this vintage cocktail which appeared in Jacques Straub's 1914 book Drinks' and later in A. S. Crockett's 1935 The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book.
We adapted this recipe to suit modern palates and ingredients.
