This initiative supports the Ciudad Retoño project by creating a cocktail that represents the core values of Sustainability and Community with students from the Bar course.
Ciudad Retoño is a project located in Los Reyes La Paz, State of Mexico, one of the poorest areas of the city. It began in the 1980s with the objective of being a safe area for people who wanted to get out of gangs or bad life practices.
Today, the project has an area where workshops of all kinds are taught, such as textiles and carpentry, with the aim of reintegrating many of these people into society.
My initiative for the Ketel One Community Heroes Challenge was to meet with a group of students from the Bar course and create a cocktail that represents the core values of Ketel One: Family, Sustainability, and Community. To do this, we visited this community, where we saw the facilities and spoke with the people in charge of the project. In this way, we scheduled to be able to make this happen.
Next, we invited them to the Bijou Drinkery Room, located inside the Mexican College of Gastronomy. There, these future bartenders learned about all the school's facilities and the bar.
There, we talked to them about the World Class platform and how it has changed my life just as Ciudad Retoño changed theirs. Then we talked about Ketel One, its history and values, and from there we began the creative process to create this cocktail together. The result of ingredients turned out to be Red Prickly Pear (a local seasonal fruit), Tomato Compote (A product that we bought from a local producer), Toast Bread, and Milk with cereals (Residues from a family breakfast).
This cocktail, Ciudad Retoño, will be for sale at my bar, Bijou Drinkery Room. All the funds raised will be donated to this community so that it can continue to change the lives of many people.

Ciudad Retoño
40ml Ketel One Vodka with toasted bread
100ml Red tuna juice
30ml Tomate jam
1g Citric powder
10ml Sugar syrup
40ml Cereal milk
Glassware: Highball
Garnish: Jazmin Flower
Method: build
Do milk punch with all ingredients, then carbonate.
