Review

Blue Dog, once one of our favourite cocktail lounges in the city, has gone downhill a bit since our last visit two years ago, although we still found it a nice place to while away an evening. A highly polished baby grand piano sits mid-way along a long, narrow, dimly lit room, which is lined with comfy leather banquettes. Weekends and some school nights there is live jazz music and the bar fills up with an older clientele.

The menu still has a long list of cocktails but the balance of the drinks has certainly swung to the sweeter side. We tried a Bourbon Old Fashioned which was exceptionally well-made however our classic champagne cocktail had added sugar syrup (in addition to the sugar cube) and two other drinks we sampled were also unbalanced. Even if it's a bit of a gamble as to the quality of the drink you'll be served, the staff remain charming and attentive.
