Review

Credited with kickstarting the craft beer revival in Vancouver, the Alibi Room packs in fans of rare brews into its impressively large space with a back bar piled reassuringly high with whiskey and awards. With mostly long table seating and wall booths, the family-run restaurant-bar has a cheery welcoming atmosphere, with light flooding through the arch windows offering a great view over the railway tracks and mountains.

Pulling off a decent balancing act between bar, kitchen and beer cellar, the Alibi's main draw is certainly its ever-changing beer list of 20 lagers, 6 stouts and 27 session ales, its kitchen offering a mostly small plates menu with all the meat, fish and poultry being ocean friendly, sourced locally or free run, is tempting too. And although the well pruned cocktail list offers only 7 drinks -most with some kind of beer component- such as the classic Black Velvet or the less well-known Green Run with bourbon and an IPA foam float, it's clear that cocktails are not an after-thought for the knowledgable staff. Forget trends or seasonal creations, think boozy, spirit-forward sippers made with a pleasing attention to detail.
