Review

There's a pleasing contrast to the atmospheres of the bar and the restaurant at this tucked away place.

Cheerful with lively chatter, and feeling very much like a traditional London boozer, the simple open plan bar works its way round a big nicely old fashioned central island counter. It all feels very unpretentious with well-worn pubby furnishings, including plush banquettes on black wood floors, dark panelling and period naval prints. Chunky tables under a covered area outside are not in the sunniest spot but are still popular.

In contrast, the restaurant is more serene with its striking glass ceiling, pale green/grey walls, and pale linen banquette running the full sweep of one wall, or you can tuck yourself away into one of the three plushly upholstered alcoves.

The restaurant menu is a sensible length, offering not over-elaborate but gently imaginative food that neither wows nor disappoints but satisfies nicely, and the bill won't leave you reeling either. Its pubby origins are still evident in the likes of good burgers and fish and chips, and they take a pride in their beef. A snack menu is offered in the bar and you can eat from the restaurant menu in here at lunchtimes.
